To prevent acute rheumatic fever recurrence, secondary prophylaxis with benzathine penicillin G (BPG) is required. BPG given as an intramuscular (IM) injection. This can be stressful and inconvenient, and the injections can be painful. It is important to identify any hurdles the patient might experience and develop strategies to overcome them, to ensure patients come back for this regular ongoing treatment.
